Be Prepared: Advice for Holidays and Surgery Closures

Medical and reception team chatting at reception desk

Whenever a public holiday approaches, our surgery opening hours will change. To ensure you stay healthy and get the help you need while we are closed, please follow this simple guide.

1. Check Your Medication Early

The most common issue patients face during holiday periods is running out of regular medication.

  • Plan Ahead: Please check your medicine supply well in advance of any holiday.
  • Order Early: If you are due for a repeat prescription, please submit your request at least 7 days before the holiday starts. This gives the practice time to process it and your pharmacy time to dispense it.
  • How to Order: Please order via our online services or your usual method.

2. Use NHS Pharmacy First Scotland

Your local community pharmacist is an expert in medicines and minor illnesses. Through the NHS Pharmacy First Scotland service, you can consult a pharmacist for advice and treatment for many common conditions without needing a GP appointment.

If you have a minor illness—such as a sore throat, earache, cold sore, or urinary tract infection (UTI)—visit your pharmacy first. If the pharmacist cannot treat you, they will refer you to the right place.

3. Know Who to Call When We Are Closed

If you become unwell when the surgery is closed, please use the following NHS Scotland services:

  • NHS Inform: Visit nhsinform.scot for reliable health information and self-help guides.
  • Call 111 (NHS 24): If your condition is urgent but not life-threatening, or if you need help when your GP practice or dentist is closed, dial 111.
  • Call 999: Only in a life-threatening emergency (such as severe bleeding, chest pain, or breathing difficulties).
